Gary Turner is a Mornington Peninsula based radio journalist with more than 27 years experience in radio and journalism working with and interviewing John Travolta, Elton John, Steve Martin, Clint Eastwood, Lee Kernaghan, Dudley Moore, Slim Dusty, Peter Falk, Kylie Minogue, Sir Peter Ustinov, Hank B Marvin, John Waters, Joe Cocker, Toto, and many others.
Gary is also the entertainment writer for a group of newspapers in Victoria and Queensland and recently interviewed and produced stories for Normie Rowe, John Waters, James Blundell, John Williamson, Steve Wright, Lee Kernaghan, Sara Storer, Joy McKean (wife of Slim Dusty) , Adam Brand, Sunny Cowgirls and many more. Gary has worked in Queensland, Victoria, Republic of Nauru and the Federated States of Micronesia in various media roles, both electronic and print.
Gary spent his early years as a Media Spokesman for the Victorian Government working with Peter Spyker, Tom Roper and Joan Kirner before shifting to the Central Pacific to work as a Media Adviser/Director of Media for the Republic of Nauru, Solomon Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia. Gary is a member of the ALP and was inspired by former PM, Paul Keating and other MPs including David White.
Gary is also a member of Toastmasters International and does a lot of public speaking/MC/compere work.
Recently Gary compered the 'Spirit of the Bush' concert in Queensland with Lee Kernaghan, Adam Forde, Leo Sayer, Adam Brand, Sharon O'Neill and friends to help raise money for the drought affected farmers of Queensland. Gary also hosted the Country Music Stampede in Geelong, Lee Kernaghan’s Paddock Tours in Queensland, the Bordertown Country Music Festival, the Brisbane Entertainment Festival, International Guitar Festival in Adelaide and has been the MC for the Mornington Peninsula Australia Day celebrations 2008, 2009 & 2010.
In 2008 Gary hosted the street parade and Sara Storer concert at the Beaudesert Horse & Country Show, the Adam Brand, James Blundell & The Sunny Cowgirls at Crown Casino and head about with Lee Kernaghan to meet and greet the farming communities devastated by drought.
Gary has also worked as MC/Compere/host aboard the P&O Fairstar, the Spirit of Tasmania, Dunk Island, Great Keppel lsland, Sheraton Hotel, Crown Casino, Wrest Point Casino, Safety Beach Yacht Club, Brisbane Convention Centre, World Police & Fire Games and the Hilton Hotel.
GT recently compered the Lee Kernaghan Toyota concert in Tamworth, Homebush Muster and the Norfolk island Country Music Festival.
As an actor Gary appeared in the TV series Cop Shop, Skyways, Holiday Island and various TV commercials. Gary is currently the Entertainment Writer for newspapers in Victoria and Queensland writing country music news, entertainment, theatre, sport and general journalism.
As a radio announcer, Gary has worked at various radio stations including 3CS Colac, 3CV Bendigo, 8HA Alice Springs, 4BU Bundaberg, 3UZ Melbourne, 3AK & SEN Melbourne, K-Rock Geelong, 98.1 FM and Kool FM Micronesia and Radio station Manager/Breakfast announcer in Nauru.
In 2010, Gary will continue his work with mate, Lee Kernaghan and will take on a position as Public Relations/Publicity Consultant for the Smart Radio Group which includes radio stations in Noosa Heads, Roma, Charleviile, Mt Isa, Emerald, Kingaroy, St George and Dalby.
